Portsmouth couple relocate up North for dream home

Portsmouth couple relocate up North for dream home

" The whole home buying process has happened so quickly, which is great. We first spotted our home on Rightmove in May and put a deposit down in June."
Sonia Collins

Relocating from one end of the country to another can be quite the daunting move and one that would involve careful planning as to which town, city or area to choose to call home. For one couple it was the house itself that was the deciding factor.

Sonia (61) and David (55) Collins decided to make the move up north from their home in Portsmouth to be closer to their daughter, Claire and grandson, Archie who live in St Helens. After a quick search on Rightmove, they found the perfect home at Countryside’s Wellington Place development in Ellesmere Port, a place they had never been to before.

Sonia commented: “At first we were just browsing and Googling houses, as we knew we wanted to move closer to Claire and Archie and the houses are cheaper in the North, which was a bonus. We did a search on Rightmove for homes within 20 miles of Warrington and that’s when we found it, the home for us.

“The Dee is a beautiful home and we knew that it was the one we wanted to buy as soon as we saw the images of its stunning open-plan kitchen / dining room and the outstanding bay window. The style of the house was perfect and you get a lot for your money.”

With the house located at Wellington Place in Ellesmere Port, Sonia and David took a trip up to the central hub between Cheshire and Merseyside.

Sonia continued: “Ellesmere Port is somewhere we had never been to before, it was the home that brought us there but when we came to look around, we were very pleased with our decision. Driving around the area, you could feel that it is being developed and is quite an up and coming place to live.

“We're now only 40 minutes from Claire and Archie, which is so much better than being 200 miles away in Portsmouth. With us both close to full retirement, it means we can spend as much time as possible with them and with our other daughter, Amy, who is also moving up north within the next year with her husband. We’re pleased to call Ellesmere Port our new home and are looking forward to us all exploring it together.”

Six months on from originally finding their house online, Sonia and David finally made their move up North and are settling into their new home at Wellington Place.

Sonia added: “The whole home buying process has happened so quickly, which is great. We first spotted our home on Rightmove in May and put a deposit down in June. We originally thought that it would be January or February before we completed but we were able to move in on 7th December, within plenty of time for Christmas.

“The team at Countryside has been amazing, from sending us the photos and dimensions of the house when we were back in Portsmouth to changing a light switches round for us. For a national company they have a small business feel, very personable and easy to talk to. Just what we needed when making such a big move.”

Deborah Hughes, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at Countryside, said: “Since the launch of Wellington Place, the popularity of Ellesmere Port has been very clear. Our homes were all reserved within just 12 months after the showhomes opened, which was an incredible achievement and a true testament to the area we have built in.

“Hearing Sonia and David’s story it is amazing to know that it was the house that sealed the move for them. We pride ourselves on creating beautifully finished homes at affordable prices, with high quality specification fitted as standard throughout.”
