Haleys leads the way with 5% club commitment

""

Lancashire based accountancy firm Haleys have joined a prestigious group of companies across the UK focused on creating momentum behind the recruitment of apprentices and graduates into the workforce.

Members of the scheme are companies who want to make a difference and support the UK’s ability to compete in increasingly tough global markets through developing the talent of the future.

The 5% club is an industry-led campaign, with industry setting itself a target to reach 5% of its UK workforce over the next five years to be graduates, apprentices or sponsored students, and report publicly on progress in their Annual Report or equivalent. As part of planning for economic growth as a country, we have to make sure we have the right pipeline of talent and skills to deliver.

It is a mark of the commitment to training and progression offered at Haleys who have already exceeded the target with over 15% of the workforce either on approved apprenticeship schemes, or training towards a formal qualification following university graduation.

Tim Haley, Managing Director at Haleys said: “We’re delighted to confirm our commitment to employing and developing young talent. To be recognised alongside industry leading names such as Airbus, Balfour Beatty, and QinetiQ is a real fillip for us and is an acknowledgement of the work we do to develop our people.”

The growth of The 5% Club has drawn praise from government as skills minister Matt Hancock said, “The government is working hard to ensure that young people can benefit from the recovery. Our job is to focus on a ‘push’ of better skilled young people. Industry needs to work on the ‘pull’ of creating opportunities to get young people into the work place.

“These employers are rising to the challenge and playing their part by increasing recruitment of young people, providing them with the training to build both a career and to Britain’s long-term success in increasingly tough global markets.”

Training and development of staff plays a key role in Haleys position for the future and Senior Client Manager Paul Farrington said: “We are a growing firm and it is important that we bring in the right calibre of people. Our apprentices and graduates have been a revelation.

“We have been really pleased with their desire and determination to do a good job and progress themselves along the career ladder. As their knowledge and confidence grows the skills base of Haleys increases and we are better able to serve our clients as each day progresses.”

Haleys are looking to recruit further to the team and have places for 2 x AAT trainees at their offices in Preston. For further details please see the people section of the Haleys website. www.haleysca.co.uk
