Young entrepreneur builds international business with support from OBLG

""

A young entrepreneur has built a technology business with clients around the world following financial investment and business support from the Oldham Business Leadership Group’s Enterprise Fund.

After discovering OBLG through a youth enterprise network in Oldham - Hassan Iqbal, 17, successfully applied for a grant for his technology company, Creative Pixels - a cutting edge business that provides a wide range of modern services, including website development, search engine optimisation, branding and other media services.

The grant has enabled Hassan to invest in new equipment and work with several partner companies and individuals in order to drive his business forward.

In addition to the financial backing, Hassan says the business support he has received from OBLG has proved invaluable.

“It’s not just a case of handing over the money and leaving you to it,” says Hassan, who first started working with computers when he was 8 years old.   “OBLG has helped a lot with building contacts and I’ve learned a range of new business skills. I know that if I have any issues, advice and guidance is just a phone call away."

Creative Pixels is now operating on an international level with clients in countries around the world “I’m so glad I got to hear about OBLG,” says Hassan, who is in his final year at the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy in Oldham.  “The support from OBLG and the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy has really enabled me to focus and push my business forward.”

Dave Benstead, Chair of OBLG says Hassan’s entrepreneurial spirit shone through when he pitched his ideas to their Dragons’ Den style panel.

“Hassan is a young man with an extremely bright future ahead of him,” said Dave.  “We were unanimous in our decision to support him.”

The Oldham Enterprise Fund was kick started last year by a £1million donation from inspirational businessman and Oldham ambassador Norman Stoller CBE, OBLG’s first ever Gold Ambassador, to help the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Applicants for the fund are given a programme of free business support to help them prepare their application for an assessment panel.  Further support is also available to those awarded funding to maximise their chances of success.

This ambitious programme supports Oldham Council’s flagship “Get Oldham Working’ campaign – aiming to create 2,015 employment opportunities by 2015.
