Pupils at The Manchester Grammar School (MGS) experienced another exciting science lesson as The Sytner Group – the UK’s leading retailer of specialist motor vehicles- brought more than £3 million worth of luxurious supercars to the School from their local specialist dealers.
Invited to MGS as part of an annual Science Day, Sytner representatives from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Manchester, Bentley Manchester, McLaren Manchester and Maserati Manchester displayed a stunning collection of cars including a brand new Maserati Ghibli, a Maserati Gran Cabrio, the new Rolls-Royce Wraith, two Bentleys and the very popular McLaren 650S.
Arranged by MGS Junior School’s Coordinator of Science, Greg Clayton and Jo Brown from Sytner Group, the day gave the boys an understanding of the history of the motoring industry as well as the scientific processes that are so integral to car manufacturing.
Greg said: “Science Day is one of the most popular events in our calendar and each year it gives teachers a platform to introduce something that is innovative and exciting and ensure that the activities bring out the very the best in our pupils. I was quite confident that the presence of supercars would be appreciated and sure enough our boys were in early and raring to see this wonderful collection of wheels.
“Beyond the glamour of the cars themselves, we ensured that the day was underpinned by an academic focus. We did this with in-classroom activities as well as presentations from Sytner team on the fascinating history of the manufacturers, the production processes and the people involved in creating the stunning cars.”
Those presentations took place in MGS’ theatre during which, pupils were given a preview of the supercar models of the future, as Marketing and PR Manager for Maserati Manchester Jo Brown explained: “It’s a joy to do this job and meet different people to whom you can talk about the cars. In this case, it was great to be able to see the enthusiasm of the pupils and to be able to give them an added treat in our presentations by giving them a glimpse of the exciting concept cars of the future.
“The students I met were an incredibly inquisitive and intelligent bunch and I hope that talking them through the concept cars of the future will inspire them to consider one of the many careers available in the luxurious motor industry.”
Three of the brands at the event – Rolls-Royce, Bentley & McLaren- are all manufactured in the UK, demonstrating to MGS students the viability of careers in the motoring industry; the cars brought to the School for the event were manufactured in Crewe, Goodwood and Woking, the Maserati’s are manufactured in Italy.
Concluded MGS Head of Junior School, Linda Hamilton: “Boys and super cars is a marriage made in heaven. We are so grateful to the representatives who came along to make this Science Day such an exciting and worthwhile learning experience.”
