Liverpool startup factory Nova begins work on 6 new industry disrupting tech businesses

"Many applicants are advising that perhaps they'd been sitting on a great business idea for a while and recent events had given them the time and opportunity to finally progress it."
Andy Davidson, CEO of Nova

After a successful crowdfund campaign in December, Nova are following through on their promise to create more high growth businesses and look set to provide a welcome economic stimulus to the area. The new businesses add to their existing portfolio of fifty two technology startups and includes an online veterinary diagnosis tool for pet owners, an app to streamline bookings and administration for tradesmen and a platform to connect overseas professionals with local caregivers for their parents.

The successful business founders secured investment despite lockdown restrictions. Completing mentorship remotely and successfully pitching to Nova’s investment panel via video conferencing. Throughout the lockdown period Nova have reported an unexpected surge in applications to join their startup programme, which is able to operate online throughout the coming months.

Nova CEO Andy Davidson commented “Our numbers are actually 40% up on last year, many applicants are advising that perhaps they’d been sitting on a great business idea for a while and recent events had given them the time and opportunity to finally progress it.

We’re living through unprecedented times in terms of economic fragility and rapid change in people's living and working behaviours. Industries and businesses have been upturned virtually overnight, and as we start to think about how we might rebuild I believe the new landscape will present many opportunities for new market entrants and industry disruptors.”

Andy said of the newly founded businesses “I’m really excited about the prospects for each of the new businesses we’re working with, we’ve got a really passionate group of founders who are looking to enter markets that we believe are ripe for digital disruption.”
