Ultima Labs launches sustainability calculator for Microsoft Azure

"We're continually evolving our IA-Cloud platform to help customers and MSPs with cloud journeys. Sustainability and disaster recovery are key issues and our new features address both of these."
Amyn Jaffer, Head of Ultima Labs

Ultima Labs, the software development arm of cloud specialist and automation provider Ultima, has today launched a carbon footprint calculator for its cloud management platform IA-Cloud, along with several other new features.

The calculator will show customers how much they can reduce their carbon footprint by when moving compatible workloads to Azure. It is part of the platform’s new Quick Assessment tool for businesses who are starting their cloud journey. The assessment tool, which is integrated into the IA-Cloud portal, enables businesses to assess their estates to help them evaluate which on-prem workloads would be suitable for Azure, the Azure VM types recommended for the target environment, and the cost of hosting those workloads in Azure.

In addition, a new Migrate tool will enable customers and MSPs to not only build out their best practice Azure environment but will allow them to leverage Azure Site Recovery to set up replication services. This means that MSPs and customers can replicate their on-prem workloads to Azure for testing purposes before flicking the switch to turn off the on-prem equivalents, making the migration process simpler and more robust.  Disaster Recovery (DR) is a further extension to this, enabling customers to build out Azure DR capability for on-prem resources.

Amyn Jaffer, Head of Ultima Labs, says, "We are continually evolving our IA-Cloud platform to help our customers and MSPs with their cloud journeys. Sustainability and disaster recovery are key issues for everyone right now and our new features address both these issues. A 2019 study found that Azure is up to 93 per cent more energy-efficient and up to 98 per cent more carbon efficient than on-premises solutions. It’s estimated that a greater reliance on cloud computing can reduce per-user carbon footprint by 30% for large companies and 90% for small businesses. Our sustainability calculator is a way of helping companies demonstrate cost savings and the wider benefits of cloud.”

IA-Cloud is proven to reduce cloud management costs by up to 46% and reduces consumption by 30% through automation and is already packed with leading-edge security features like automated patching and monitoring, a security compliance feature and a vulnerability analyser which alerts customers to potential exploits that need addressing.
