Online retailer proves it's no mug with range expansion

"The decision to expand our mug range came as a result of growing demand, and this was evident during lockdown. Lots of customers have asked for us to turn some of our cheekiest card designs into mugs."
Stacey Dennis, owner and founder of Love Layla

Fast-growing online cards and gifts business Love Layla is trebling its range of exclusive mugs to offer consumers a choice from 190 designs.

The Pontefract-based firm has seen mug sales increase by over 50% since last year with bestsellers including cheeky designs such as 'champion teabagger', 'good luck finding better colleagues than us' and the Freddie Mercury inspired 'I want to drink tea.'

New additions to the range include lockdown, and key worker themed designs which have proved popular as gifts for NHS heroes and to cheer up family and friends in lockdown.

Designs include 'Is it 2021 yet?' 'NHS Legend'. 'Is it safe to go out yet' and 'Hello, my name is Karen. Please can I speak to your manager.'

Owner of the business, Stacey Dennis decided to expand the range as the popularity of mugs soared.

The company has already established and grown a new market for traditional greeting cards by appealing to younger buyers in particular. It has found a growing audience for its non-PC product range and has expanded into gifts and stationery to meet demand. Many of its most popular card designs are now available as mug designs.

In just five years, Love Layla has grown to become a multi-million-pound operation with over a million fans on social media.

Love Layla's extensive design range attracts an international customer base as well as interest from some of the UK's largest card retailers. The brand has also established a cult following.

Stacey Dennis started the business from her kitchen table in 2015 with just £30 after being made redundant as a designer. The company also has a successful franchise in Australia and is eyeing new markets around the world.

Stacey said: "The decision to expand our mug range came as a result of growing demand, and this was evident during lockdown. Lots of customers have been asking for us to turn some of our cheekiest card designs into mugs. Father's Day mugs also proved to be one of our most popular items so far this year, and this was our busiest Father's Day since we started trading, I suspect because many people couldn't go out but wanted to send gifts to their dads.

"Lots of customers have been ordering amusing mugs for colleagues, and their bosses as work-related designs have proved massively popular despite so many people working from home or being furloughed. It looks like people might be trying to lighten the mood by clutching a funny or risque mug during video calls with their colleagues!"

Love Layla's mugs are available for £12 each or 2 for £20 using the promocode 'TEABAGME'. Price includes first-class postage and packaging.
