Co-op Funeralcare celebrates gender equality in South Yorkshire on International Women's Day

"It was really impactful to get together and to celebrate the amazing female workforce we have, up and down the country."
Clare White, Co-op Funeralcare Barnsley

Co-op Funeralcare’s female employees across the region gathered in Barnsley this week, joining millions of others across the globe, to mark International Women’s Day, March 8th, 2020.

For Clare White, Funeral Service Manager at Co-op Funeralcare Barnsley, fighting gender equality in the sector and beyond is a real ambition of hers.

She comments: “It was really impactful to get together and to celebrate the amazing female workforce we have, up and down the country.

“A funeral director was traditionally always seen to be a man’s role, however, today our workforce is very much an equal split and here in Barnsley 60% of our team is made up of women.

Clare concludes: “The traits required to work in the funeral sector include compassion, empathy and strong organisational skills. It’s an incredibly rewarding career that both men and women alike can excel in.’’
