"We see the BID Club as a great way for businesses to meet their neighbours, share successes and concerns, and, just as importantly, for the BID team to meet and speak to business owners."
BID chairman and acting interim manager, John Fox
Harrogate town centre businesses have attended the first meeting of a monthly after work networking club launched by Harrogate BID (Business Improvement District).
The aim of the BID Club gatherings is to give businesses an opportunity to meet and share ideas with each other, and for them to meet directors and staff of the BID team.
Over the next five years, a levy on qualifying town centre businesses will raise more than £3m, which will be re-invested into promoting Harrogate’s shops, hotels, bars and restaurants to a world-wide audience.
Held at Hotel du Vin on West Park, the BID Club – which attracted dozens of traders from town centre businesses – heard from BID chairman and acting interim manager, John Fox, about its aims as well as introducing BID manager, Elizabeth Murphy, who takes up her post on July 1.
John Fox said: “I would like to thank all those businesses who attended our inaugural BID Club. We weren’t sure how many would people would come along, but I was delighted with the attendance.
“We see the BID Club as a great way for businesses to meet their neighbours, share successes and concerns, and, just as importantly, for the BID team to meet and speak to business owners.
“We are confident the club will grow in popularity and become a rolling diary entry for town centre traders.
“The July meeting arranged for Thursday 18 July 2019 will be centred around the UCI event in September. Yorkshire 2019, the organisers, will be available to talk in detail about the 9 day cycling event. It is important that local businesses have as much information as possible to enable them to arrange deliveries and to ensure their staff can get into work.”
