Rhyl Cash Converters celebrates 20 years in business

"At Cash Converters, weve always managed to grow and adapt to the changing times and vary our service to meet the needs of our evolving customer base."
Richard Addison of Rhyl Cash Converters

A Rhyl store owner is celebrating a momentous milestone as he marks 20 years on the Welsh high street.

Cash Converters franchisee, Richard Addison, 64, opened his store on November 2, 1999, after relocating to North Wales with his family in 1990. Originally from Yorkshire, Richard currently employs 10 staff at his store on Bodfor Street and credits his ongoing success to the store’s adaptability to the changing face of the high street.

Passionate about delivering an unrivalled service to the store’s customer base, Richard continues to play an active role in the day-to-day management of the business he founded, and still works at the store on a daily basis.

Talking of his experience in retail over the last 20 years, Richard said: “Our first store was located on High Street in between Woolworths and Soled Out shoe store, both of which have sadly folded over the years.”

“We had a fantastic opening week, achieving one of the highest first-week sales records for a Cash Converters store at the time, and we enjoyed a successful ten year trading period there.”

In 2009, Richard decided to relocate the store to a premises on Bodfor Street, to accommodate the changing nature of the business. With a shift to online sales, the new premises included a bigger online buying and selling department which ensured the business continued to meet the needs of its changing customer.

Over the last two decades, Richard has spent much of his time training and educating his staff on the range of services on offer at his store, which includes pawnbroking.

“During my twenty years at the store, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some fantastic people. Our current Sales Floor Manager, Tom has been with us for 13 years and has built up a brilliant rapport with our customers, as has our newest jewellery specialist, Lauren, who recently joined us from Albemarle Bond. I am incredibly lucky to have such a fantastic team of loyal employees working at the store.

“It’s amazing to think 20 years have gone by since we opened the store. So much has changed, in both my own role and across the industry as a whole. But at Cash Converters, we’ve always managed to grow and adapt to the changing times and vary our service to meet the needs of our evolving customer base.

“As high street retailers close their doors around us, Cash Converters continues to buck the trend when it comes to high-street shopping. We’ve got a fantastic team of dedicated staff behind us and I’m confident that we have a bright future ahead of us. Here’s to the next decade!”
