The number 13 is unlucky for some, but certainly not for Joyce and Les Gibbs who won a ‘pile’ in a competition to mark the opening of a new flooring store in Milton Keynes.
Flooring Superstore announced its arrival in the town by running a competition to win £500 worth of flooring.
More than 250 entries were received but Joyce and Les had their names drawn out of the hat after successfully answering that this was the 13th store opened by Flooring Superstore in the UK.
The Bradville couple had originally planned to use the money to buy carpet for their living room and bedroom, but thanks to Flooring Superstore Manager Martin Hobley, they managed to stretch it a lot further – to the whole house in fact.
Joyce said: “The original carpet we chose would only have stretched to one of the rooms so Martin told us we could make the £500 go much further by choosing another carpet which was cheaper but identical in colour.
“You can’t actually tell the difference and now we have managed to carpet the whole of our bungalow so we couldn’t be happier.
“Some people think the number 13 is unlucky but it hasn’t been for us. I was born on the 13th, 13 was the answer in the competition we won and it’s because of the amazing help we have had from Martin in the 13th Flooring Superstore to open in the UK that our home is now lovely and cosy.
“It’s been a very lucky number for us!”
Martin said: “We are delighted to have been able to help Joyce and Les to use the £500 they won to buy carpet for the whole of their home.

Since Flooring Superstore opened its 5,300-square foot store on the Grampian Gate Retail Park, it has opened a further four stores, with two more set to open in March.
Shoppers can choose flooring from three brands - Flooring Superstore, Direct Wood Flooring and Grass Direct.
