"As with any long journey, its important to have essential servicing and maintenance carried out on your vehicle to ensure it performs to the highest standard and doesnt let you down. "
Martin Drake, Quick Lane Manager Reading

A local Reading autocentre has done its bit for charity, preparing a 15-year-old Ford Galaxy with more than 100,000 miles on the clock for a 1,000+ mile fundraising trip around Europe.

Quick Lane Tyre & Autocentre based in Sentinel End, carried out more than £1,000 worth of repairs on the ageing vehicle to prepare it for a four-day journey that stretches from Reims in France, to Stuttgart in Germany, onto Salzburg in Austria, before passing through Venice and ending up in Lake Como, Italy. The work was all part of the preparations for this year’s Pavestone Rally, which sees an all-female team Quick Lane team aim to raise money for three charities; The Teenage Cancer Trust, The Rainy Day Trust and Variety, the Children’s Charity.

Taking place from now until September 8th, the Pavestone Rally challenges teams to purchase a road-legal vehicle under the value of £500, customise it and then travel across Europe from destination to destination in style – and fancy dress. Three female Quick Lane employees are currently taking on the challenge and hoping to raise more than £2,000 to split between the three charities.

In addition to carrying out a free multi-point vehicle health check, the Reading team has helped prepare the car for the journey by carrying out an oil and filter change, fitting a new exhaust and suspension, changing brakes and brake fluid, replacing the battery and readjusting the wheel alignment.

Martin Drake, Quick Lane Manager – Reading, commented: “As with any long journey, it’s important to have essential servicing and maintenance carried out on your vehicle to ensure it performs to the highest standard and doesn’t let you down. We really enjoyed working on the Galaxy and helping Quick Lane prepare for this year’s Pavestone Rally.”

Jo-Anne Brown, Events and Patrons Manager at Variety, the Children’s Charity, added: “The Pavestone Rally looks like a lot of fun and we’ve been watching the progress of the Quick Lane team closely as they’ve worked to get their Galaxy ready for the journey. Events like this really help to raise money for deserving causes and the amount raised by Quick Lane will enable us to continue to improve the lives of children and young people throughout the UK who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged.”
