Strathmore makes waves with storytelling session

Strathmore makes waves with storytelling session

"Plastic is polluting the worlds oceans - but if everyone makes small changes in their day-to-day lives, we can help reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans"
Norman Leishman, Retailer Principal at Strathmore

A car retailer in Perth visited a local school for an eco-friendly storytelling session.

Strathmore, on Dunkeld Road, visited Royal School of Dunkeld for a special reading session of Volvo's brand-new children's book, The Day the Ocean Went Away.

The book is a result of Volvo’s partnership with award winning illustrator, Jago Silver, and features a little boy who wakes up one morning to discover the ocean has completely disappeared, and embarks on a journey to discover why.

The Day the Ocean Went Away has been created to raise awareness among younger generations about the effects of plastics in the ocean. Following the book reading, Strathmore led a discussion about tackling pollution and improving ocean sustainability.

This coincided with the children completing a special project on the reduction of single use plastics, which led to some lively questions and answers after the reading session.

Norman Leishman, Retailer Principal at Strathmore, said: “Hosting a reading for The Day the Ocean Went Away was a wonderful opportunity to talk to the children at Royal School of Dunkeld about the welfare of our environment.

“Plastic is polluting the world’s oceans - but if everyone makes small changes in their day-to-day lives, we can help reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans, which is incredibly important to us here at Strathmore.

“The book is part of Volvo Car’s global initiative to fight plastic pollution and is designed to teach the next generation about the importance of ocean sustainability. We are proud to be a part of this initiative and to have sparked conversations about looking after the world we live in at The Royal School of Dunkeld.

The Day the Ocean Went Away is in partnership with City Kids Surfing, a non-profit social enterprise that gives inner-city children the chance to experience the sea for the first time.

The children’s book is available to order on Amazon or via Volvocars.co.uk/UnseenOcean. All proceeds will go towards CityKidsSurfing.com.
