The unique competition offers Midlands-based entrepreneurs the opportunity to take their business to the next level and join the popular shopping destination’s growing variety of brands. The potentially life-changing prize includes a store within intu Derby for a period of six weeks, completely rent free.

Those who are interested in applying have until Tuesday 8 September to submit their applications via the intu Derby website, with the winning store set to open from mid-November to the end of December, giving the successful business the chance to make the most of the busiest shopping period of the year.

The Hatch initiative was first run at the shopping destination in 2019 and the huge response from businesses across the Midlands led to three pop-ups opening at intu Derby. Two of last year’s winners, Design 44 - a quirky UK and Scandinavian gifts and homeware brand, and Project D - a loaded doughnut maker, remain open after deciding to stay longer at the centre at the end of their six-week period, due to their incredible success with visitors.

As well as winning prime retail space, benefiting from the centre’s footfall of over 21 million visitors a year, the winner will also have access to marketing support from intu Derby to further aid and strengthen business growth.

The lucky winner will join intu Derby’s vibrant mix of big-name fashion brands, including Whistles, Zara, BOSS and Next, and popular eateries Wagamamas, Nando’s, Five Guys and TGI Fridays.

Adam Tamsett, general manager at intu Derby, said: “We’re delighted to be running the Hatch initiative for the second time, in collaboration with Revo, we believe this competition will give the winner a fantastic chance to expand and grow.

“We hope to replicate the brilliant success of our past winners, Project D and Design 44, who have proven to be so popular with visitors. So, whether you know a start-up or small business who would love the chance to win rent-free retail space, are a Midlands entrepreneur who dreams of the opportunity to join a busy city shopping destination, or even if you’re an online retailer who wants to take the step into a physical store, we’d love to hear from you!

“We’re certain we’ll see an array of inspiring businesses apply and are very much looking forward to welcoming the winner to intu Derby this autumn.”

Entries to the Hatch competition close on Tuesday 8 September at 5pm, with the winner being announced at the end of September. For more information and to apply, please visit https://intu.co.uk/derby/competitions/hatch.
