Residents and team members at Care UK’s Prince George House, on Mansbrook Boulevard, were visited by young adults from Inspire Suffolk, who spent time getting to know some of the older members living in their community.
The visit was organised as part of a new initiative that aims to break down the barriers to employment and equip young people with the skills needed to achieve a positive future. Providing an opportunity to develop communication skills and improve their confidence in speaking to new people, the young adults were able to forge new connections with both residents and team members, as well as learn more about a career in care.
Jennie Rodger, home manager at Prince George House, said: “Here at Prince George House, we are always keen to support local initiatives, and so we were delighted to welcome learners from Inspire Suffolk to Prince George House.
“Intergenerational relationships are proven to be enriching for everyone, and the visit offered a chance for both generations to learn from each other, and provided an opportunity for young people to find out more about life in a care home.

Neil Fox, lead tutor for Inspire Suffolk’s Engage Programme, said, “We’d like to thank everyone at Prince George House for welcoming us so warmly, and for sparking an interest in many of our young people.
“It was a positive experience for our leaners and it was great to see everyone so engaged. We really enjoyed getting to know residents and the team, and we hope that they got as much out of the experience as we did!”
Inspire Suffolk is a charity dedicated to supporting young people to take the steps towards a positive future. Offering personal development programmes, the charity helps young people to develop integral skills, such as team work, confidence and self-esteem, that will broaden their horizons and equip them for adult life.
