"There may well be the potential to increase the size of the property by extending into the roof space, which is currently unused, and the building could be suitable for a range of imaginative new uses"

Glyde House, a grade II listed 19th century former chapel school designed by one of Bradford’s most renowned firms of architects, is due to feature in Pugh’s next online property auction later this month, with a guide price of £95,000.

The 8,500 sq ft former school, on Little Horton Lane opposite Bradford Ice Arena, was designed in 1862 by architects Lockwood & Mawson, who were responsible for many of the city’s most iconic buildings, including St George’s Hall, Bradford City Hall and Saltaire mill and village, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The three-storey Glyde House has most recently been used as serviced office accommodation and includes a ground-floor bar and function space. The site also has parking for around eight vehicles.

Paul Thompson, managing director of auction house Pugh, said: “The sale of this remarkable property will give potential buyers the opportunity to invest in a slice of the city’s history, as well as in a brilliant, adaptable space in a great Bradford city-centre location.

“There may well be the potential to increase the size of the property by extending into the roof space, which is currently unused, and the building could be suitable for a range of imaginative new uses, subject to a buyer obtaining the necessary planning consent.”

Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic last March, Pugh has sold lots totalling over £40m at its auctions, which have been held on the firm’s online platform.

Pugh’s next auction, featuring Glyde House as well as land and properties across the UK, will be held online on 24 March. Registration for the auctions closes at 12pm on 22 March and bidding opens on 23 March.
