New homes on historic Freshford Mill

New homes on historic Freshford Mill

"Set in stunning countryside, these new homes have been sympathetically designed to complement the history of the old Mill and the existing homes in the village."
Francine Watson

The first new homes have been completed in an exclusive development at the former Freshford Mill in the village of Freshford, near Bath.

Freshford Mill is mentioned in the Domesday Book and has a history dating back to before the Norman Conquest of using the power of the River Frome for milling.

Set in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty some 24 individual architect-designed homes are being created on the former industrial land, some incorporating mill buildings.

The first to be released is the four-bedroom Letcombe Lodge, a palatial 260 square metres of living space. This £1.2 million home offers the ultimate in modern flexibile living in the beautiful rural location.

Equally impressive is Teasel Cottage, a three-bedroom home that is being released to the market for £900,000.

Francine Watson from agents, Knight Frank said: “We are excited to be launching this special and unique development, on the edge of the delightful village of Freshford. Set in stunning countryside, these new homes have been sympathetically designed to complement the history of the old Mill and the existing homes in the village.’

Prices on the whole development start at £680,000 and the homes enjoy unspoiled southerly views over pasture land with the backdrop of Friary Wood on one side and the beautiful Freshford Valley on the other.

Freshford is one of the most sought-after villages in the area as it nestles in beautiful countryside, has a good school and a popular 16th Century village Inn. The railway station provides connections all over the country, with London just two hours journey time.

Ben Lovell from real estate advisor, Avison Young, who is overseeing the completion of the development, said: “With a thousand years of manufacturing history, Freshford Mill has an amazing back-story. For centuries it was used for cloth manufacturing, it produced aircraft parts during the Second World War, rubber tennis balls, then rubber products including floor tiles, life jackets and parts for the automotive industry,

"A huge amount of work has gone into cleaning up the legacy of these former industrial uses and in providing flood protection for homes to be built alongside the river. We now intend to quickly complete phase one of the development and then complete the second phase, which will see homes created from the former mill buildings closer to the river.

“A beautiful lake with wetland planting has already been created and we are taking care to provide the right environment for this bespoke collection of dream homes in such a premium location. It is rare to have such bright, modern new homes in such a traditional and historical setting.”
