Plans for the next exciting stage in the development of Barton Park in Oxfordshire have been revealed, with the submission of a Reserved Matters Application for Phase Three of the site.

£47.9m residential-led scheme for Barton Park moves to next stage

"Barton Park is set to be a truly unique example of sustainable and community-focused living."
John Mann, MD for Redrow Homes South Midlands

The plans, which were submitted by leading housebuilder, Redrow Homes South Midlands, are for a 13.84-acre phase of homes on the 90-acre development, located close to the A40 in the north-east of Oxford.

The submission includes the provision for 207 two, three and four-bedroom homes, of which 83 will be for social rent. The application also includes a series of individually designed ‘pocket parks’ established within the streetscape, creating opportunities for informal play and a place where residents can socialise.

The development is being brought forward by a partnership between Grosvenor Britain & Ireland and Oxford City Council, delivering a ‘21st century garden suburb’ in one of the country’s most physically-constrained cities. The new neighbourhood is one of the most advanced NHS England Healthy New Town demonstrator sites, with Grosvenor and Oxford City Council setting robust design principles for the development and delivering infrastructure which is supporting residents to live healthier, more active lives.

Once complete, Barton Park will provide almost 900 homes. New and existing residents will benefit from a primary school, community hub, children’s play areas, parkland – including cycling, running and walking routes – communal gardens and allotments, as well as new sporting facilities, a commercial centre and sustainable transport links.

Twenty per cent of energy consumed on the new development is set to be produced by renewable sources, with a ‘fabric first’ approach to ensure all buildings exceed current building regulations for thermal insulation to reduce energy wasted.

John Mann, Managing Director for Redrow Homes South Midlands, said: “Barton Park is set to be a truly unique example of sustainable and community-focused living, in what will be an exciting and transformational development.

“We’ve been working closely with Grosvenor and Oxford City Council to progress our vision for phase three of the development, with a well-considered layout that encourages integration and engagement with the wider community, whilst mirroring the design of buildings in the surrounding area.

“The location provides a unique opportunity for families and couples alike, pairing green, open spaces and neighbouring countryside with close proximity to Oxford city centre and Oxford Parkway railway station, offering direct services to London Marylebone and Paddington.

“We’re committed to creating thriving communities here at Redrow Homes, making the Barton Park Healthy New Town initiative a fantastic fit for us and one that we are excited to be involved with.”

Alex Robinson, Strategic Land, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, said: “Barton Park is a great example of what can be achieved when the private and public sectors work together to deliver new homes. By combining Grosvenor and Oxford City Council’s expertise and working in partnership with leading housebuilders like Redrow Homes, we are helping to meet Oxford’s housing need while creating a place where people are proud to live and derive benefits from.

“The first residents are already enjoying their new homes at Barton Park and we look forward to this next chapter in the community’s development.”
