South Manchester-based Northwest Marble & Granite, part of Northwest Group, has been contracted to supply marble for the Liverpool Royal Insurance building that was originally installed over 110 years ago.
The project comes as the iconic Liverpool Royal Insurance building located on North John Street in the city centre, built between 1896 and 1903, is being transformed in a boutique hotel.
The team at Northwest Marble & Granite identified and sourced two types of marble, Perlino Creme and Verde Issorie, are still in production today even though it would have been installed by Victorian masons 111 years ago.
With extensive cleaning and restoration being carried out to the original marble in the lift, lobby and main staircase, Northwest Marble & Granite will supply a significant amount of materials for areas that can’t be repaired.
Mike Connett, Group Managing Director of Northwest Group, comments: “The architecture of the Liverpool Royal Insurance building is truly breathtaking and we are delighted that it is finally being made use of.
“It is important that historic buildings retain as much as their original features as possible and by keeping the marble within this project it will maintain an air of grandeur for the new hotel, giving it the all important wow factor.”
Mike adds: “Being a key supplier in this restoration is very exciting and we can’t wait to see how the hotel looks once completed.”
