Millson Appointed on £3.5M Design of New Albert's Schloss Bar in Manchester

Millson Associates, the Manchester-based architecture and interiors practice, has been appointed by Mission Mars to design the new Albert’s Schloss new bar and restaurant in the city’s historic Albert Hall.

The Grade II Listed building has in recent years become a live music venue and its new ground floor bar and restaurant will anchor its leisure offering, something propelled by owner Mission Mars – a joint venture group comprising the businesses behind Trof. Millson is implementing a series of designs which will help bring to life the client’s ambitions of creating a food, drink and entertainment venue, described as a Bohemian pleasure palace. It aims to be bohemian in nature and spirit but is also inspired by Bohemia, the former name of the Czech Republic, bordered by Bavaria. Schloss, which is German for castle, refers to a noble’s house for recreation.

Millson Associate's Laura Seddon said: “This is a fantastic project for us and I am delighted to see our designs commissioned. We have worked closely with the client to create a space which will realise their vision and have been inspired by materials and designers in the Bavarian and Alpine regions. We look forward to completing the space ahead of its opening next month.”

The design include the sympathetic conversion of the Listed space – another Millson specialism: “One of the UK’s only RICS accredited conservation experts works within our team, “ added Laura, “which is a great asset when it comes to designing beautiful Listed spaces such as this as it means that we can present viable, achievable schemes from the outset.”

It is the latest in a series of leisure sector work for Millson, which is headquartered in Manchester but also boasts an office in central London. Last year the team completed the My Pasta Bar project for TV chef Gino D’Acampo as well as a series of pub refurbishments for longstanding client Punch Taverns.

Concluded client Joel Wilkinson: “I am delighted to be working with Millson on this; we needed a design partner who could help us create a beautiful venue, hosting world-class entertainment with hospitality, food and drink to match – something they’ve definitely helped us achieve.

“We can’t wait to complete the fitout and open the doors – inviting music lovers in to enjoy an incredible experience, the only one of its kind in the UK. We are also going to be offering private parties, corporate events and conferences along with the weddings we launched last year.”
