Leading regeneration specialist Galliford Try Partnerships North West has commenced work on a site known as the polygon at the New Brunswick development in Manchester.
The polygon is a commercial/residential building split over three storeys and is located opposite the Apollo Theatre Manchester.
The ground floor will comprise a new housing management office to accommodate the Brunswick PFI housing team, and four retail units for rent, which are already creating a stir locally, with retailers looking to locate their businesses to this popular residential community on the outskirts of the city. Floors one and two will be made up of 18 self-contained two bedroom apartments for council rent, whilst the external areas will feature a private parking court along with landscaped areas.
Craig Nemeth, regeneration manager at Galliford Try Partnerships, said: “We are very pleased to have started work on site at the polygon. This is another key milestone in the development and a significant injection of investment into the Brunswick area. It will not only provide a great opportunity to bring in more new homes to the scheme but the retail units and new housing office will also be a valuable addition to the community.”
Cllr Bernard Priest, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, said: “It’s been a pleasure to see the continuing transformation of the Brunswick area. The potential of the neighbourhood is being unlocked and a community created in what must be the next area of choice, so close to the city centre.”
The houses which were previously on the polygon site have now been demolished, after residents were rehoused locally, to make way for the new scheme. The current housing office will be demolished at a later date to allow for more much needed new housing for the area.
The polygon forms part of the wider £100m regeneration of Brunswick by S4B, which is transforming the area. The plans, which are currently being implemented, combine the construction of high quality new homes with the refurbishment of existing council homes, as well as the delivery of improved road layouts and enhanced open spaces. To date Galliford Try Partnerships has delivered 61 open market homes and 41 council owned properties.
