Leaders from across Liverpool gathered on Thursday, September 25th to launch the city’s presence at two prestigious property conferences - the world leading MIPIM Cannes and the inaugural MIPIM UK.
The event brought together the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, Ged Fitzgerald, chief executive of Liverpool City Council, Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision and Sean Beech, chair of the MIPIM steering group to highlight how the city should position itself at the events to be attractive to both current and future investors.
The private sector driven MIPIM initiative is being project managed by Marketing Liverpool and Liverpool Vision with the strong support of businesses across the city region including Deloitte, Bruntwood, Brabners, Peel, Grosvenor, Falconer Chester Hall, Arup, Curtins, KPMG, Innov8 Safety Solutions, Moorcrofts, the Liverpool BID, Harcourt, the Chrysalis Fund, the Homes and Communities Agency, Ryder Architecture, City Residential, BDP, Sutcliffe, Wates and Active Profile.
MIPIM Cannes, now in its 26th year, is the world’s leading property market event which brings together the most influential players from all the international property sectors. The 2015 event takes place between March 10th and 13th.
MIPIM UK takes place in London between October 15th and 17th and is the first MIPIM event to be staged in the UK. It will see a diverse mix of property professionals gather; from investors, developers, local authorities, occupiers, hotel groups, agents and business service providers.
The city will be jointly exhibiting with Manchester at MIPIM UK which features a programme of events including a connected cities event in Mayfair London focusing on the importance of enhanced connectivity between the cities across the North.
Launching Liverpool’s presence at these events at Peel’s Marketing Suite on Princes Parade, representatives from MIPIM business supporters in the city heard from Sean Beech, chair of MIPIM steering group. He said: “In an increasingly competitive market, it is so important for Liverpool to stand out from the crowd to be attractive to current investors and investors of the future. Liverpool is a thriving city and provides the perfect environment for people to work and live and this is the message we want to tell the world.
“We’re delighted to see such a strong support from businesses across the Liverpool region and it’s also encouraging to see that already more businesses have signed up for MIPIM Cannes than last year.”
Mayor Anderson said: “It’s vital we keep up the momentum we have built since returning to MIPIM last year and following the International Festival for Business 2014. Be in no doubt that Liverpool is a confident business city with an incredible offer and world-leading companies. We need to promote ourselves as a Capital of Commerce at every opportunity.
“That is why I am making sure that Liverpool is at the heart of the debate to devolve powers to cities following the Scottish referendum. We need the powers to help us grow and attract the right kind of investment that will help rebalance the UK economy.
“It’s also why I am fighting hard, supported by business in this city, to ensure that Liverpool is linked to HS2, because the economic benefits to Liverpool will be significant not least in making us a destination of choice for investors and visitors.”
Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, said: “The hosting of the International Festival for Business on behalf of the UK provided us with a great opportunity to showcase the Liverpool City Region investment offer and we are delighted to be able to build on that when the IFB returns in 2016. We can therefore approach the MIPIM events with renewed confidence and as we do, I believe further inward investment opportunities will be forthcoming.”

The event also heard from recent winner of the Wolfson Economic Prize, David Rudlin, director of Urbanism Environment Design (URBED).
Earlier this month, David won the prize based on his concept of the ‘Garden Cities Act’ which advises the government to enable existing towns and cities to bid for garden city status to allow them to double in size while protecting the countryside.
