Your Housing Group residents of the former Mallard Court sheltered scheme on Finney Lane in Heald Green have had their first glimpse of their new homes at Smithy Croft, the new 55 apartment retirement living scheme which is due to open its doors shortly.
All of the six residents had previously lived at Mallard Court, which previously sat on the site of the new Smithy Croft retirement living development, and were relocated whilst the new scheme was built. This summer will see them finally return to take up their new homes at Your Housing Group's newest retirement living development.
This was the first opportunity the residents have had to take a look around Smithy Croft, which includes a bistro, hairdressers, communal lounge, laundrette, and a multi-functional activity room with both the hairdressers and bistro open for use by local residents.
One resident commented “I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time and I’m so pleased to be able to see my new home – it’s definitely changed from what Mallard Court used to look like. The look and feel is completely different; I can’t wait to move back”
Another added “To be able to move in to a brand new apartment at my age is fantastic, I will be inviting my friends round to see the scheme and I can see myself using the facilities 24 hours a day”
Smithy Croft, will offer people aged over 55 the opportunity to buy, part-buy or rent apartments and currently there is still the opportunity for interested residents to snap up their own apartment within Smithy Croft, with prices starting at £160,000 for a one bedroom apartment to purchase, or from £80,000 for shared ownership plus rent.
