New multi million pound development for County Durham

New multi million pound development for County Durham

"We have created a development that meets the needs of the local community and delivers exceptional new homes for Burnopfield"
Adrian Reay, managing director, Ergo Projects

Plans for a new £14 million residential housing scheme on the outskirts of a County Durham village have been submitted for approval.

The move will see proposals for 49 new two, three, four and five bedroomed homes and one and two bedroomed retirement apartments considered by Durham County Council planning department.

If plans get the green light inFebruary 2020, the development by Akenside Developments Ltd at Syke Road in Burnopfield could create up to 150 local construction jobs including work for apprentices, graduates and trainees.

The scheme is seen as a much-needed boost to housing stock, including the availability of more affordable properties, plugging a gap in the local market for larger, more energy efficient homes, particularly for people keen to stay in the area but who want to move to a bigger property.

The Burnopfield scheme is also expected to boost spending on local leisure facilities and services by up to £40,000 a year, as people move into their new homes.

Designed by North East architectural firm Ergo Projects, onsite work is expected to start this spring with the first release of the new homes due to be completed by 2021.

Managing director Adrian Reay said: “We have created a development that meets the needs of the local community and delivers exceptional new homes for the area. As well as a good variety of house types, the landscape proposals for the site are equally impressive and we are excited to see the finished product. As architectural technologists, we want to work on challenging projects and for clients with ambition. With our designs, we have also focused on aspects around green credentials and ensuring the homes are as energy efficient as possible.”
