Coleorton choir raise the roof after receiving cash boost

"We are delighted to support Roots Community Singers, who we know will continue to make fantastic music for the benefit of the community."
Nadine ODowd, sales director for Persimmon Homes

A community choir in Newbold, Coleorton has plenty to sing about after being awarded a cash donation from a leading regional house builder.

Roots Community Singers has received £750 from Persimmon Homes North Midlands as part of the builder’s Community Champions initiative.

The national match-funding scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.

Roots Community Singers is a local group of singers and musicians who meet every Tuesday evening at Newbold Coleorton School near Ashby de la Zouch. The group hold regular concerts and events for the benefit of its members and frequently in support of local good causes.  The choir’s Christmas Concert raised over £400 for the Loughborough homeless organisation, Falcon Services.

Chairman, Julie Cooper said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes North Midlands for this amazing gesture.

“We need to raise around £3,000 to pay for a new PA system as our old one is often unreliable. The new equipment will enable us to deliver a much better sound experience and take on more performance invites to support local charities.

“We have already held a number of successful fundraising events including concerts and singing workshops. The donation from Persimmon Homes is a welcomed boost.”

Nadine O’Dowd, sales director for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “We are delighted to support Roots Community Singers, who we know will continue to make fantastic music for the benefit of the community.

“The Community Champions scheme was launched to support groups, clubs and charities that improve the quality of life for local people in the towns and cities where we build new homes.

“As always it was a difficult decision to select our Community Champions but urge any charity or organisation that missed out this time, even if they have won previously, to apply again.”
