Leading restaurateur Andrew Nutter is calling on catering business owners to place more emphasis on the user experience in their digital marketing strategy, to increase customer engagement. The advice comes as the critically-acclaimed modern British restaurant and wedding venue on the outskirts of Rochdale, unveils its new website.

With an exceptional reputation across the region and beyond, the celebrity chef recognised a need to enhance the website user experience for his customers and increase compatibility across all devices, with an emphasis on their menus.

He explained:

“Most decent restaurants have a visually appealing website, but they are driven by the business and not the customer. We know that our diners don’t want to have to download a PDF to view our menus and so the key focus of our new website was to make this as easy as possible.

Andrew Nutter appointed leading Bury-based Think Design to develop the new website following the success of a wedding brochure the agency designed for Nutters at the end of 2018. Think were briefed to bring design consistency across their marketing materials and to incorporate the brochure graphic design style across the new website, with ease of use as a top priority.

Think Design began with an assessment of the existing website, taking a top view of the entire structure to arm them with an insight which pages were performing well – and which were unnecessary.

“When it comes to web design, many agencies will miss out this crucial step and rush straight to the “fun bit” – but to do that is to do your client’s a huge disservice.

“It’s absolutely essential that as web developers  we understand how potential customers interact with a business website – and be clear on what will lead them to convert.

“We established early on that the majority of visitors to the Nutter’s website predominately wanted to view menus via the website and not through a downloadable PDF– and so that’s what we set out to replicate.”

After beginning with a site map, Think developed a concept around the wedding brochure design with the challenge of enabling the online menus to look and act like a menu in the restaurant. Following the lead of the brochure, the team kept the same colour theme and typography, creating an easy to read website design with even clearer menus.

“ We truly put ourselves in the shoes of the customer, and through our research we were shocked to see how many other restaurant websites had failed to do this. We took a collaborative approach with the client, to ensure consistency throughout, resulting in an outstanding piece of work that we are extremely proud of.”
