Multi-millionaire celebrity businessman selects a Derby mum as part of an award to showcase Britain’s best small businesses.

Former BBC 2 star of Dragon’s Den Theo Paphitis has awarded Ripley based Claire Saxton of Saxton Marketing, the prestigious Small Business Sunday Award.

The award, run through Twitter and known as #SBS, singles out small businesses who show passion and determination in their industry. They were created by Theo as a way of supporting small businesses and include ongoing support and networking opportunities to help independent businesses flourish.

Claire, who is a mum of two, set up her business in 2014 to help SMEs see the true potential social media can bring to their business. Since then she has helped clients win 47 social media awards as well as increasing their business reach and improving engagement and followers.

Collecting her award from Theo, who owns High Street retailer Rymans Stationery, at an award ceremony at the ICC in Birmingham Claire said: “This award means so much to me and I am so honoured to be recognised.
“As a working mum of two little ones Saxton Marketing helps me realise my dream of running a business and following my passion for supporting SMEs with their social media.

“For me marketing and social media are such an important part of any business that I want to make sure that I help as many people as possible to see the true possibilities social media and marketing can bring.”

The event is designed to help entrepreneurs to gain the support they need to grow their business and features first hand guidance from leading business people including specialists from Google on how to maximise your business’ digital visibility, free legal advice and even a chance to catch up with fellow Dragon’s Den star and crafting entrepreneur Sara Davies.

One of a series of accolades for the award-winning marketer Claire was chosen for the Women in Business award #WOW in 2019 which is run by female entrepreneur Jacqueline Gold CBE, who owns Ann Summers.

Talking at the time about why she chose Derby based Saxton Marketing from the multitude of nominees, Jacqueline Gold CBE said: “Saxton Marketing helps businesses shatter their marketing barriers and reach their full potential. Claire’s experience in the marketing industry puts her in good stead and her honest and professional manner makes her the prime person to help fellow businesses realise their opportunities for growth and further development. I wish her every success in the future.”

Claire gained a BA Hons Tourism with Marketing and CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing from the University of Derby before going on to work at local building societies providing marketing support for 12 years.

In 2014 Claire set up Saxton Marketing and now helps businesses to boost their sales through marketing support either by maximising their marketing strategy, using social media to increase their presence, win awards and meet new clients or by offering expert advice on creating a strong digital presence for businesses.

The Derby entrepreneur has also been awarded the Smart Social Twitter award and Queen of True Potential title in the Queen of awards celebrating successful female entrepreneurs.
