Bloomin lovely Dorset care home helps forge community bond

"The local community is an important part of life here at Ferndown Manor, so we wanted to take this opportunity to show our support to this fantastic group."

The Care UK team at Ferndown Manor, on Golf Links Road, partnered up with Ferndown Upper School to help rejuvenate their community garden, as well as donating funds towards their much-needed irrigation system.

The home donated £250 to the group and the partnership was cemented when residents from the home helped to weed and nurture the garden alongside pupils from the school, which provided a great intergenerational activity.

Speaking about the partnership, Ferndown Manor home manager, Janet Lewis, said: “The local community is an important part of life here at Ferndown Manor, so we wanted to take this opportunity to show our support to this fantastic group.

“The residents have had a wonderful time helping the pupils to create the garden. This project with Ferndown Upper School really chimes with our desire to make meaningful activities an essential part of care, so residents can live each day in the way they want – so we’re delighted to have formed this fantastic partnership.”

Kimi Bothamley, head of physics and project co-ordinator, from Ferndown Upper School, said: “We can’t thank the team and residents at Ferndown Manor enough! Not only for their generous donation, which brings us closer to buying our well-need irrigation system, but also to the residents who helped us tend to the garden and get it looking its best. It’s been great getting to know everyone, and I look forward to joining forces with the home again in the future.”

Ferndown Manor, which features 75 ensuite bedrooms, is a state-of-the-art home which provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, hairdressing salon and café, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
