Sports Tours International supports major British Cycling network

Sports Tours International, the UK’s leading independent sports tour operator is backing the #ChooseCyclingNetwork, formed by British Cycling in March this year.

A network of major businesses including Santander, Sky, GlaxoSmithKline and The AA have already joined together to urge politicians to be bolder on cycling on a national scale.

Ahead of the 2015 General Election an open letter was sent to party leaders asking for commitments on funding. This month the group have written to the chancellor, ahead of the Comprehensive Spending Review, asking him to leave room in public finances to fund a credible Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy.

Sports Tours International continues to invest in the cycling travel sector to encourage more people to take cycling holidays. They also actively embrace the request to the chancellor in regard to public finance assistance.

Chris Bird, Chief Executive of Sports Tours International commented:  “The #ChooseCyclingNetwork has a ten point plan which we actively embrace and support. We continue to invest in the cycling travel sector to encourage more people to holiday.

“We actively promote safety and we also invest in women's cycling via our ambassadors, Dame Sarah Storey and Joanna Rowsell.”

Sports Tours International cycling ambassador and Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold medal cyclist Joanna Rowsell commented: “It’s amazing how cycling has become so popular over the last 10 years with more and more people choosing to ride their bikes and enjoy a healthy and enjoyable mode of transport. However there are still a lot of people that are put off cycling due to safety issues.

“Since I entered the sport we have come a long way but the government needs to continue investing in making cycling more accessible and enjoyable on British roads in order to keep benefiting from the many rewards of this great sport.”

Formed by British Cycling, the #ChooseCyclingNetwork is a group of businesses that strongly believe more cycling would be good for their workforce and customers. Meeting a couple of times a year, the group believe that the promotion of cycling and walking as everyday transport options are crucial to help businesses thrive, to encourage people to live healthier lives and to make Britain a more pleasant place to live.
