Primary School Football Team Kicks Off Summer Term With Tournament Success

The football team at Denton-based primary school Manor Green have kicked off their summer term with a string of successes, having reached the finals of not one, but two local tournaments.  

Competing in the North Tameside (Holmes) Cup Final & South Tameside (Kiley) Cup Final last Thursday, and the Tameside (Heywood) Cup Final & Tameside (Millea) Supplementary Cup Final on Friday, the team won First and Second place respectively.  

The team, which is made up of 13 pupils who are all in Years 5 and 6 at Manor Green Primary Academy – which is one of 15 schools within Focus Trust; a charitable multi-academy trust established in 2012 and based in the North West - train weekly and regularly take part in local competitions and tournaments.  

Earlier this year they also reached the final eight of the Manchester City Schools Tournament which was played at the club’s training complex .

Commenting on the success the team Manager Mr Ronnie Halsall, who is also the Coach at Haughton Juniors FC which provides football coaching to pupils throughout the school, said: “All of the children worked incredibly hard to get to the final of both of these tournaments and the whole school is incredibly proud of their achievements.”
