"It was great to have the opportunity to meet our swimmers and the team at the Bannatyne Health Club in Durham."

Becky Adlington visited the health club to meet members and discuss the importance of teaching young people to swim. The visit is part of a partnership between Ms Adlington’s learn to swim business, Becky Adlington’s SwimStars, and The Bannatyne Group.

Becky Adlington’s SwimStars is the fastest growing swim school in the country. The programme, which is for children of all abilities aged between three and 11, emphasises values, such as respect, friendship, determination, excellence and courage, while following the Swim England’s ‘Learn to Swim’ framework and badge system.

Matthew Emery, Resort Manager at the Bannatyne Health Club Durham, said: “Becky’s enthusiasm and passion for swimming is obvious. Listening to her speak with members and children, you can tell she truly believes it’s vital that more young people are able to swim and take it up as a fun way to get fit or more seriously as a sport.

“That enthusiasm and passion is something that is at the heart of the Becky Adlington’s SwimStars lessons and is really emphasised by the swimming teachers here at the club. Every child always leaves the lesson with a big smile on their face – who knows, we might even be training the next champion swimmer here!”

Becky Adlington said: “It was great to have the opportunity to meet our swimmers and the team at the Bannatyne Health Club in Durham.

“As well as the obvious health benefits, SwimStars also encourages and rewards important life skills such as friendship, leadership and determination, that are important for the overall development of young people.”
