"It was fantastic to welcome Joe to experience one of our first ever BLAZE classes this week. "
Zoe Mead, Studio Manager
The singer, who is currently starring in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Birmingham Hippodrome, was seen taking on a HIIT (high intensity interval training) class at Birmingham’s newly opened BLAZE Studio Birmingham.
The performer, who is clearly into his health and fitness, took on a BLAZE class at the Cornwall Street studio which involves a high intensity full-body workout combining combat and mixed martial arts with intense cardio and strength training – all led by ‘rock star’ instructors and synced to high-energy music and cutting-edge light effects.
Competitive spirit was high for the panto star, who was wearing a Myzone heartrate monitor which tracked his progress in real-time and displayed his results against other participants on screens at the front of the class.
McElderry looked on great form as he made his way around the studio’s three key exercise stations; running, lifting weights, boxing and doing martial arts for three minutes at each station throughout the 45-minute class.
Zoe Mead, Studio Manager for BLAZE Studio Birmingham, said: “It was fantastic to welcome Joe to experience one of our first ever BLAZE classes this week. As well as being an incredibly talented performer, his is also a big fitness fan, so a BLAZE class was the perfect chance for him to get that all-important training session in between panto shows.
“It was great to see him getting into the competitive spirit as he took on members of the public – he was certainly up for the challenge, trying to beat other participants to get into the red zone on the scoreboard, which means he was exerting maximum heart rate effort!
“We hope to welcome Joe back to the studio again in the future.”
