How does Captain Marvel reminds us of home insurance?

Extortionate insurance payouts for Hollywood blockbusters remind us that protection measures are key to help prevent disasters happening in the first place

How does Captain Marvel reminds us of home insurance?

"Our homes are our personal movie sets and smart home insurance technology, such as smart cameras and leak detectors can play a heroic role in identifying issues early and help prevent home perils"
Matt Poll, CEO and Co-Founder of Neos

The Captain Marvel movie has made waves at the box office, already pulling in over $900 million dollars worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), and everyone is on the edge of their seat to see if it will hit 1 billion this coming weekend.

The figure is certainly impressive, but these action-packed movie extravaganzas cost Hollywood a fortune to create. With increasingly over-the-top action stunts that push the boundaries with fire, explosions, gushes of water and daredevil heights, it’s no surprise that the insurance costs alone are through the roof.

According to research commissioned by Easy Life Cover back in 2016, it is estimated that over £150 million is spent on insurance policies in Hollywood annually, and that an action-packed franchise, such as Captain Marvel, is estimated to cost between £220k - £380k in losses per day.

Hollywood puts policies in place to cover incidents once they occur, for example £7.5 - £9.8 million was paid our when Robert Downey Jr broke his ankle for the 2013 movie Iron Man 3. However, it's equally as important to have protection measures in place to help prevent disasters from occurring in the first place.

This is a logical approach we should be adopting in our everyday lives, by ensuring we have prevention measures in place to protect our homes and our priceless possessions inside.

Matt Poll, CEO and Co-Founder of Neos, says "action-packed blockbusters play with all the elements; fire, water, rapid air pressure, and a number of disasters could occur on any given day. Similarly, for homeowners, house fires, floods, theft, are all real disasters that can occur and it's important to ensure home-protection measures are in place.

"Our homes are our personal movie sets and smart home insurance technology, such as smart cameras and leak detectors can play a heroic role in identifying issues early and help prevent home perils occurring in the first place. Just like in Hollywood, where tech plays a crucial role in bringing us closer to the action, it can also play an important role in keeping us close to home, even when we’re out at the cinema.

"The good news is, unlike in the movies, this protection doesn’t have to come with blockbuster prices. Smart home insurance policies include the technology as part of their offering and cost around the same as traditional cover, so homeowners can keep the cast of their family safe without breaking the bank."

Neos smart home insurance offers policy holders the ability to check-in on their home while they’re not there and helps identify potential home disasters before they cause severe damage. The combined offering acts as the eyes, ears and nose of all policy holders, adding extra protection and peace of mind – talk about an ‘everyday life’ superhero.
