Kidding around Halstead care home welcomes a host of furry friends

Residents were delighted when several four-legged friends trotted, hopped and bounded into their care home for a special visit.

Kidding around Halstead care home welcomes a host of furry friends

"You could see from everyones reactions how engaged they were to get by such a variety of lovely animals, and it was wonderful to meet some of the pets weve heard so much about."
Razvan Stanbeca, home manager at Colne View

The animals went in two by two at Care UK’s Colne View, on Dame Mary Walk, when a bundle of pygmy goats, bunnies and guinea pigs popped in to say hello, as part of a special half term treat.

Celebrating the furry members of their families, relatives brought along their pets for a morning filled with nibbling lettuce leaves and playing fetch. Residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to stroke and pet the friendly creatures, and Lady, Colne View’s canine relations manager, was also delighted to have some new four-legged friends to play with.

As part of the event, the Colne View team also organised for some pygmy goats to join in with the fun, and the placid creatures loved being stroked as they perched in resident’s laps.

Razvan Stanbeca, home manager at Colne View, said: “We had a fantastic morning with some of our favourite furry friends. You could see from everyone’s reactions how engaged they were to get by such a variety of lovely animals, and it was wonderful to meet some of the pets we’ve heard so much about.

“Here at Colne View, we know just how beneficial animal therapy can be for older people – especially those living with dementia. Being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood, stimulate social interaction and ease agitation – and our cuddly companions were brilliant at doing just that!”

Colne View is a modern care home which provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
