Law Returners is a new six-month cross-company returnship programme run by Women Returners, together with The Law Society and legal employers in Manchester and Leeds. The pilot programme will be based in Manchester and Leeds, starting in February 2019, and is supported by the UK Government Equalities Office Returners Fund.
The programme will equip you with the skills, knowledge and experience to enable you to apply for permanent roles at end of programme.
You will receive internal mentoring, together with the Career Returners Coaching Programme support from Women Returners to help you to transition successfully back into the workplace. As coaching support will be delivered centrally in each city, you will benefit from a large supportive peer network of like-minded people.
The Law Society will provide successful participants technical training, informal mentoring from their Back to Law Ambassadors, networking opportunities and other legal support.
Flexible working options may be available during and after the programme depending on the role.
The programme is targeted at experienced legal professionals who have had an extended career break of at least 12 months, and who are looking to return to work in private practice. Due to the focus of the Returners Fund, applications are particularly welcome from people who have taken time out to look after children or elderly/sick relatives. You may have been working on a small-scale basis to fit around your other commitments or have not done any paid work for a number of years.
Julianne Miles, managing director, Women Returners said: “It can be very daunting trying to get back into work after a long career break. Many people who are highly skilled, well-qualified and with considerable business experience struggle to find the right opportunities.
"Following the rapid growth of returner programmes in sectors such as financial services, telecoms and construction, it was an obvious next step to extend a concept with proven success into the law sector.
"The concept of returnships is less established in the north of England. But interest in the programme has been high, with 20 law firms large and small signing up for this pilot programme. "
Applications close on 25 November 2018
