"It was fantastic to see so many women come together to raise money for incredibly worthy causes and the support from everyone made this challenge even more special"
A top lawyer from Chester has cycled over 350km across Italy in an effort to raise vital funds for two local charities.
Helen Watson, Partner and Head of Employment Law at Chester Legal firm Aaron & Partners, has raised over £3,000 after completing the tough bike challenge that saw her cycle from Milan to Venice with a group of 60 women.
The 350km trek took three days to complete with the ladies having to contend with some tricky terrain and thunderstorms along the way. During the ride they visited some of the most picturesque parts of the Italian countryside and cycled along the edge of Lake Garda – Italy’s largest lake.
Helen, who is no stranger to these kinds of fundraising challenges, has chosen to split the money raised between Wirral-based charity Claire House Hospice and Women V Cancer, a fundraising partnership between Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.
She said: “It feels fantastic to have been able to complete this tough challenge and it’s very rewarding to know we have raised an incredible amount of money for charity. Some of the roads weren’t ideal for bikes and on the third day we cycled through thunder and rain all day!
“Cycling through the hills on the southern edge of the Dolomites to Lake Garda was challenging but was made easier by the unbelievably gorgeous scenery and views.
“It was fantastic to see so many women come together to raise money for incredibly worthy causes and the support from everyone made this challenge even more special. After completing the final day where we cycled over 130km, we all came together for a well-deserved celebratory dinner.”
In 2011, Helen lost a close friend to ovarian cancer and has since endeavoured to raise as much money as possible to support charities in finding a cure. Her individual fundraising efforts have helped raise more than £103,000 for a host of North West Charities, including Claire House Hospice.
She continued: “I really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to sponsor me in this challenge. The money raised really will go a long way towards helping two incredible charities.
“I’ve completed a number of challenges in aid of Women V Cancer, a fundraising partnership between Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust. The money raised will help fund the fantastic research these charities do. The same goes for Claire House Hospice, a local charity who has helped a number of people close to me.”
Helen has been supported in all her fundraising efforts by Chester-based law firm Aaron & Partners where she has worked since 2007. She is a Partner and Head of Employment Law at the firm, and is recognised as one of the UK’s top employment lawyers.
“Aaron & Partners’ strong commitment to corporate social responsibility has meant they have always been incredibly supportive, and across the firm we have committed to support a number of causes that make a tangible difference within the local community,” added Helen.
