Shakespeare Martineau sparks new relationship with Last Mile Infrastructure Group

Law firm Shakespeare Martineau has been appointed as legal adviser to Glasgow-based utility expert, Last Mile Infrastructure Group.

Following a competitive pitch process, the firm, led by Peter Dilks, was recognised for its combined knowledge of the real estate and energy sectors, specialist expertise and national reach.

Last Mile Infrastructure Group operates nationally to design, build, own and operate multi-utility networks alongside housebuilders, construction firms and independent consultancy companies on new residential and commercial developments.

In addition to Shakespeare Martineau’s proven real estate energy credentials, its drive to put its clients’ needs first underpins every activity. As well as streamlining the communications process, the system also ensures real-time information can be shared easily between both parties.

Shakespeare Martineau will be supporting on a wide variety of legal activities including leases and transfers of substations and gas governors, as well as easements for cabling. Shakespeare Martineau has a strong legal presence in the energy market and already advises Last Mile subsidiary Energetics on other commercial matters.

Last Mile Infrastructure Group has recently completed the acquisition of UK Power Solutions, another major player in the field of multi-utility installations. This acquisition will expand Last Mile Infrastructure Group’s national reach and adds another independent connections provider (ICP) to its portfolio, building on the success of its existing ICP subsidiary, Energetics.

Peter Dilks, partner and real estate energy specialist at Shakespeare Martineau, said: “Last Mile has been on a positive growth trajectory in and we are looking forward to supporting them as they continue to expand their national reach. Its team has recognised that regeneration projects can no longer work in silos, and ensuring that new housing or commercial developments think holistically about their approach to utilities has propelled its success.

“This partnership is testament to the hard work, commitment and confidence that Last Mile felt from every member of our real estate energy practice. We’re looking forward to expanding our team, as Last Mile grows its reach – especially following its recent acquisition of UK Power Solutions.”

Matthew Collinson, Legal and Regulatory Affairs Director at Last Mile Infrastructure Group, said: “Shakespeare Martineau came out of the process as the clear leader.
