Southampton-based Coach Celebrates Becoming Best-Selling author by Sharing Story of Being an Introvert with an Extrovert Lifestyle to Help Others Overcome Imposter Syndrome

Southampton Coach Lives a BIG Life in a Quiet Way

"I am delighted that this has become a best seller "
Lindsey Hood

Lindsey Hood, 41, who lives in Swaythling, Southampton, is celebrating this week, having become a global bestselling author on Amazon book charts after the release of her debut book ‘Live a Big Life in a Quiet Way’ became a bestseller within hours of its release flying straight in at Number 1 on the Amazon bestseller charts in the in Occupational & Organisational Psychology category and it’s climbing up the charts in the Psychological Education & Training category too.

Lindsey has over 10 years experience of coaching, she is a gentle but powerful qualified life and executive coach who specialises in working with women across the globe including; the USA, Canada, Africa and the UK….  who secretly struggle with imposter syndrome. Lindsey describes herself as an introvert first and foremost, however, this does not define her lifestyle and she is on a mission to show others that their personality trait needn’t hinder their way of life.

This bare-all book reveals Lindsey’s personal struggle climbing the corporate ladder for over 16 years whilst she worked in the banking industry within financial services. Each time she got a promotion she would always have this feeling a couple of months later that she wasn’t good enough or that she would be found out. Regardless of all the positive feedback she got, the encouragement from her managers, her hard work and time she had devoted… sometimes that inner voice would just take over. Although on the outside she looked like everything was okay, inside she was fraught and constantly worried whether she was enough. Eventually, after years of worrying, angst and living limited, Lindsey decided to look a little deeper within and start her own personal development journey and she soon saw that this pattern of ‘not being good enough’ was also mirrored in her personal life too – this was imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome is a psychological pattern that can affect anyone. It's a feeling of self-doubt and anxiety that can manifest itself without any clear reason for doing so. New findings from a two-year study by haircare brand TRESemmé found that almost 90 per cent of women in the UK experience imposter syndrome.

On this realisation in her own life, Lindsey started to talk to friends and colleagues and found that imposter syndrome resonated with so many others too. Last year some well-known women spoke up about their own experiences of Imposter Syndrome including; Michelle Obama, Britain’s Got Talent Judge Alesha Dixon and the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon.

Lindsey said; “So many people, like me, have sometimes, are currently, or continually suffer with Imposter Syndrome - this is defined by the feelings of being a ‘fraud’, the fear that you’ll get ‘found out’ and the belief that you’re not good enough. This can be ad-hoc or in the worst cases can be crippling. Through this book and my work as a coach, I am passionate to share my story with people and explore with the reader how we all have unlimited potential for change.”

In 2012, Lindsey decided to retrain and now, almost 10 years later, she has a Postgraduate Certificate in Executive Coaching, an ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring and being a DiSC Certified Trainer and NLP Practitioner and her debut book is filled to the brim with tips and tricks for introverted personalities looking for ways to enhance their quality of life and experiences.

As she embarked on her own journey of self-analysis and personal development – she said; “I realised that in both my professional and personal life, there was a behavioural pattern, and when I researched this, it has a name - it is called the imposter syndrome. The training I undertook enhanced my own self-awareness and ability to ‘experiment’ with my behaviours to create effective strategies to improve my own performance - ultimately becoming the ‘best version’ of myself. By appreciating my natural abilities and strengthening these, I started to feel genuinely comfortable in my own skin. Being the real me takes less energy, gets great results, and people can easily get a sense of who I am and what I’m about. Learning to accept myself for who I am - my perceived warts and all - has led to increased emotional freedom.”

Over the past couple of years, Lindsey has been pulling together all her experience, knowledge and teachings into her debut book Live a Big Life in a Quiet Way: Strategies for introverted women to overcome imposter syndrome’.  At the start of the book Lindsey is upfront and explains how she finally made the decision to write her book after much to-ing and fro-ing, battles in her mind telling her ‘Who would want to read something you’ve written?’ and the consistent self-doubt that was eventually overcome by confidence and self-belief, learning the lessons for herself that she teaches clients.

With the immediate overnight success the book has already had, it’s clear to see that the book is needed and it has already been well received by many across the globe.

Lindsey said: ”I am delighted that this has become a best seller and hope that it helps readers across the world to re-connect, realise and release both personal andprofessional potential.
