How to use aromatherapy products to balance the mind, body and soul

"As a brand we understand the power of nature in promoting health and wellbeing, which is why we spend so much time researching the best ingredients to soothe the body and mind."
Robin Fisher

Aromatherapy is a restorative, therapeutic treatment that has been practised for years, combining fragrant plant extracts and essential oils to help improve our overall health and wellbeing. Aromatherapy oils help to stimulate the part of our brain connected to smell, the olfactory system, which explains why certain scents can impact our mood and even recall memories from our past.

Fragrance expert Robin Fisher, Product Manager at ARRAN Sense of Scotland, shares his knowledge and has selected the best products from the brand’s extensive range to balance the mind, body and soul.

Best For: Anxiety/depression

Research has shown that ylang ylang essential oils can positively impact our mood by helping to soothe our minds and bodies while relieving feelings of stress or tension. Our Glen Rosa range is expertly blended with a range of essential oils including ylang ylang and fig - so why not boost your mood with a selection of our bath and body care bestsellers from across the range.

Best For: Stressed/Difficulty Relaxing

Lavender is renowned for its relaxing properties, but did you know spearmint can also help to clear our minds and allow us to focus? Try any product from our Glen Iorsa range which contains a balanced blend of lavender, spearmint and patchouli– a brilliant combination to help the body relax and recuperate.

Best For: Mood Boosting

Bergamot is commonly used in aromatherapy to aid feelings of nausea and pain management, but it also has properties that can help to reduce anxiety. Try any product featuring our Imachar fragrance, which combines zesty tones with sweet honeysuckle or the Bergamot and Geranium home fragrance collection to create the most relaxing of rooms.

Best For: Insomnia/Trouble Sleeping

Lavender has long since been used to aid sleep, so a spray of our Glen Iorsa Calming Mist on the pillow or in the room before bedtime helps to restore inner calm and promote a restful night’s sleep. Clary sage is another ingredient that promotes good sleep by helping to reduce the effects of stress, which can be found in our Apothecary Seaweed & Sage collection.

Try anything from the Apothecary seaweed and Sage range to aid good sleep.

Best For: Tiredness/Lack of Concentration

Citrus oils have a reinvigorating effect on the mind and body. Choose from orange and lemon oils found in our Apothecary Seaweed & Sage range, find your citrus hit of Grapefruit and Green Leaf in the Glenashdale body care collection or introduce your home to the scents of the outdoors with the Just Grapefruit home fragrance range.

Robin Fisher continued:

“Using plants for restorative practices dates back thousands of years. Crafting aroma and connecting with nature is at the heart of ARRAN Sense of Scotland’s ethos. As a brand we understand the power of nature in promoting health and wellbeing, which is why we spend so much time researching the best ingredients to soothe the body and mind. We choose our ingredients very carefully, based on how they will combine to not only create evocative aromas, but strengthen our physical and emotional wellbeing.”

ARRAN Sense of Scotland creates bath, body and home fragrance collections inspired by and proudly made on the Isle of Arran.

For three decades, the family-run company has been creating vibrant, evocative scents from their Home Farm factory - an old dairy farm for the historic Brodick Castle. The company has grown significantly since it began as a small, family soap business, but has held true to its island heritage.
