Nuffield Health Salford Triathlon Returns to Media City

Nuffield Health Salford Triathlon Returns to Media City

""

With the popularity of triathlons continuing to increase, Nuffield Health Salford Triathlon returns to MediaCityUK, the home of BBC, ITV and Coronation Street, for the third year running on Sunday 26 July. Figures show that the number of people competing in triathlons increased from 178,178 in 2013 to 196,303 last year* and 1,000 people are expected to compete in the Salford event later this month.
The race is based in the MediaCityUK Piazza and participants in the Olympic distance event will compete in a 1,500 metre swim within the waters of Dock 9, an eight loop 40km closed road bike ride around Salford and Trafford, and finally a 10km waterfront run around the Quays.
Because of the fast, flat nature of the course, the Nuffield Health Salford Triathlon is a suitable event for triathletes of all abilities. With this in mind, there is the option to take part in the sprint distance race, which is half the distance of the standard race. There is also a relay option for teams of three people who wish to get involved, but don’t want to attempt all three disciplines.
On the day, personal trainers and massage therapists will be waiting in Nuffield Health domes at the finish line, helping competitors to cool down properly and providing free sports massages to soothe tired muscles.

In the lead up to the event, Nuffield Health are holding the first ever Nuffield Health Triathlon Workshop on Saturday 18th July. Hosted on the official race course by professional triathlete Paul Hawkins, participants will have the chance to practice their open water swimming, transitions, cycling and running.  Experts will also be on hand to provide injury prevention and nutrition tips and answer any questions participants have.

Dr Andy Jones, Managing Director Wellbeing, Nuffield Health, says: “As we continue to increase our presence in Manchester, we’re delighted to be returning to the Quays to host the third Nuffield Health Salford Triathlon. Last year’s event was a huge success and we’re pleased to offer the local community the opportunity to be a part of this popular sport, as well as access to our experts who can help them recover after their race.”

Robin Maxwell, Co-founder of Nuffield Health Salford Triathlon, says: “Nuffield Health is the perfect partner for our triathlon, and we are delighted to have had them on board since the reincarnation of this fantastic race. There is always a great buzz around the event and there’s no other race with a backdrop like this one! Our competitors value them greatly, with race tips in the build-up, and on race day those all-important sports massages at the end for their tired racing legs”

Nuffield Health has well-established fitness and wellbeing facilities across the city and is due to open a world-class diagnostic suite at Citylabs later this year. The not-for-profit organisation is also submitting plans this summer to build a flagship hospital and wellbeing centre in the heart of Manchester, working in partnership with key organisations, to materially improve health and wellbeing outcomes across the region.
