NHS Partner Publishes Health and Wellbeing Guide on Amazon

"We hope that this handbook will encourage more patients to take control of their health and wellbeing, and gain the confidence that they need to better manage their own healthcare and wellbeing."
Dr Ruth Chambers, OBE

West Midlands based NHS online medical portal partner, digihealthwell, have released a handbook to encourage people to better manage their health conditions with the use of digital aids.

Now available on Amazon, ‘Digital aids for self-care of your health and wellbeing’ is a practical guide for people who have been diagnosed with one or more health conditions, including hypertension, asthma, atrial fibrillation (AF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The handbook is intended to encourage people with such health conditions to adopt the use of digital aids to support their self-care, or underpin the shared management plan agreed with their healthcare provider.

Digital aids that can be utilised for the management of health conditions include apps and independent online learning from trusted resources, along with Technology Enabled Care Services (TECS) such as video consultations.

The handbook is split into 7 main chapters. Chapters 1 and 2 focus on outlining tips and advice for improving your general health and wellbeing, and how digital aids can be incorporated to help. Chapter 3 focuses on lifestyle habits, and how they can affect health and wellbeing.

Chapters 4 to 7 then break down four common health conditions; hypertension, AF, COPD and asthma, and how particular digital aids can be utilised by patients to better manage these conditions.

The first half of the handbook also provides advice to encourage patients to adopt healthier lifestyle habits and improve their overall health and wellbeing. For example, by stopping smoking, cutting down alcohol intake, eating healthily and exercising more. The handbook also points patients in the direction of digital aids that can help them to improve their overall health, as well as aids that can help them to manage their specific health conditions.

Adopting healthier lifestyle habits will enable patients to better manage their conditions, and prevent the occurrence of additional health problems too.

The majority of digital aids outlined in the handbook are easily accessible, low cost, and recommended by trustworthy organisations including the NHS. The authors also add that these recommended aids are designed to act as tasters, readers are encouraged to continue to seek out additional digital aids that could work for them.

Dr Ruth Chambers, recently retired GP and Clinical Lead for Technology Enabled Care, and one of the handbook’s authors, comments; “The utilisation of digital aids by patients has been found to aid in the improvement of their overall wellbeing, and encourage the better management of health conditions.”

Dr Ruth Chambers continues, “We hope that this handbook will encourage more patients to take control of their health and wellbeing, and gain the confidence that they need to better manage their own healthcare and wellbeing via the use of digital aids.”

‘Digital aids for self-care of your health and wellbeing’, is available on kindle or as a paperback from Amazon at: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Digital-aids-self-care-health-wellbeing/dp/1838397787/
