Christmas extravaganza residents treated to a taste of West End at Enfield care home

Not just your usual Christmas carols this December, an Enfield care home opened its doors to the West End cast of Mary Poppins for a festive performance.

Christmas extravaganza residents treated to a taste of West End at Enfield care home

"Our partnership with Songhaven has been a roaring success so far, so we were delighted to welcome Ceili and her castmates to our home for a special Christmas performance."
Michelle Sampang, home manager

Care UK’s Elizabeth Lodge, on Pennington Drive, welcomed professional actress and singer Ceili O'Connor alongside 20 of her castmates for a special Christmas extravaganza.

The performance is part of a Care UK partnership with not-for-profit company Songhaven. Their Care Concerts scheme aims to bring world-class performers from the operatic and musical theatre stage into Care UK homes in the London area for professional concert visits.

The Care Concerts scheme was launched following successful opera events last summer, and has continued to grow ever since. Ceili, who has performed at some of the other north London Care UK homes, is a seasoned musical theatre star, appearing in ‘Cats’ earlier this year, and currently starring in Mary Poppins.

Michelle Sampang, home manager at Elizabeth Lodge, said: “Our partnership with Songhaven has been a roaring success so far, so we were delighted to welcome Ceili and her castmates to our home for a special Christmas performance.

“Music can have many therapeutic benefits for older people, especially those living with dementia, by offering them an alternative way to communicate, while also triggering happy memories from their younger years. Ceili’s performance transported us all the way to West End – it was a truly special afternoon here at Elizabeth Lodge, and I know the residents loved every moment of it. We would like to say a big thank you to Ceili and the rest of the cast for making a positive difference to the residents’ lives. We’re already looking forward to the next performance.”

Elizabeth Lodge has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care.
