Norwich care home celebrates Outstanding CQC triumph

"This CQC rating is an incredible accolade which shows just how hardworking and passionate Anne and the team at Badgers Wood really are."
chief executive officer, Tony Stein

Badgers Wood Care Home in Drayton, was given an ‘Outstanding’ rating following the CQC team’s visit.

A CQC report judges a care home on its levels of care, responsiveness, safety, effectiveness, and leadership and includes comments from residents and their relatives. This report is Badgers Woods’ first since 2016, when it was rated “Good”.

In the report, one of the care home resident’s relatives was quoted: "Let's put it this way, nothing is perfect, things can always be improved, but here, it's as near to perfect as it can be. We even joke that we're going to put our names down to move in here."

Comments from the inspectors in the report, included: People using the service benefitted from an extremely well led and caring service.”

“People and their relatives were placed at the heart of the service and involved at every level. People received exceptionally kind and responsive person-centred report from staff who were motivated and led to provide the best care they could.”

One resident told the CQC representatives: “"There's always something going on. It's unbelievable how hard the activity co-ordinator works. There's a lot of choice and staff let me know when something is about to start."

Anne Riches, the home’s registered manager, said: “We are delighted with our latest CQC report which is testament to the passion, dedication and hard work of our staff at Badgers Wood.

“We all pride ourselves on delivering individualised and person-centred care to enable our residents to have maximum choice and to live as fulfilling a life as possible.”

Of Anne’s leadership, one staff member said: “"She is so good, it's not often you see a manager go around helping as much as she does. She lives and breathes the place. I love working here …”

Larchwood Care’s chief executive officer, Tony Stein, said: “This CQC rating is recognition of the passion that Anne and the team at Badgers Wood have to care. The home is an extension of the local community in every sense.

“HCMS and Larchwood Care is committed to delivering the highest standards of service for all of our residents and we look forward to more Outstanding ratings in the future.”
