Independent Pharmacy Launch Dementia Friends Initiative

Bedfordshire based independent pharmacy, Smarta Healthcare, has trained its staff members to become dedicated ‘Dementia Friends’ to mark Dementia Awareness Week 2019. 


The new Dementia Friends initiative will enable Smarta Healthcare’s experienced team to give vital advice and support to those caring for individuals suffering with dementia, whilst creating awareness of the condition within the local Bedfordshire community. 


Harjinder Singh, Director of Smarta Healthcare, commented; “With 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia and many other going undiagnosed, the team at Smarta Healthcare think it’s important to provide help, advice and support for those living with the condition.” 


“Our team are now trained to provide communication techniques, advice for when someone you love is experiencing distress and help for family members or carers struggling to cope. At Smarta we have the technology and various other compliance aids to help individuals to take the right medications on time” 


To mark the launch of the new initiative, Smarta Healthcare will be teaming up with Tibbs Dementia Foundation, Carers in Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough Council to host a dedicated event at The Higgins on 22nd May 2019 to provide free advice, workshops and support for those affected by Dementia within the Bedfordshire region. 


Free of charge to attend, the event will take place between 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm and will host a taster session of Tai Chi, Yoga and Relaxation, French, Art, Living History, Line Dancing along with health and wellbeing talks. Places can be secured via Tibbs Dementia Foundation. 


Founded in 2015 Smarta Healthcare has established long-term relationships within NHS Trusts, Care Homes and individual patients throughout Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and across the UK.
