Central Bedfordshire Care Homes To Benefit From New eMAR System

Care Homes managed by Central Bedfordshire Council will benefit from state-of-the-art technology thanks to a new partnership with medication management specialists, Smarta Healthcare.

 

The partnership, formed in October 2018 will provide care homes across Central Bedfordshire with the cost-effective management of prescriptions for its residents, through the introduction of an electronic Medical Administration Records (eMAR) system.

 

Smarta Healthcare, an award-winning independent pharmacy dispensing hub, is implementing the system, where the firm’s will be taking care of ordering, collecting and delivering prescriptions, while supporting staff as they continue to provide high quality care to all residents.

The eMAR system developed by Systema gives every resident medication a unique barcode which, when scanned, locates the patients’ medical history, including details of any allergies and what medication they should be taking, together with details of the correct dosage.

 

The system also successfully supports the management of controlled drugs, highlighting missed or incomplete medication rounds, reducing the risk of potential medical errors, therefore enabling the medication process in care homes to become safer, simpler and more compliant.

 

So far, the Smarta Healthcare team have helped three care homes implement the new system, with a further three care homes in the process of transitioning.
