"Pam had a great time singing, dancing, meeting people, and having her photo taken with some of the festival staff"
Alison Day, home manager at Great Horkesley Manor
A resident at Great Horkesley Manor care home, who is living with dementia, has had her longstanding ambition to go to a music festival realised with a little help from the FaNs network.
Pam Morris, 75, a resident at Great Horkesley care home in Colchester, had her dream come true, thanks to the FaNs network, which arranged for her to go to Nearly Festival at Colchester Recreational Ground. The FaNs network, helps to keep the residents of Essex care homes connected to their wider community.
Great Horkesley Manor staff, Lynsey Lewis and Jo Brown, helped Pam to get into festival mood by assisting with hair and make-up.
Alison Day, home manager at Great Horkesley Manor, said: “Pam looked really excited and had a huge smile on her face.
“I joined the gang, and we all made our way to the festival for the afternoon.”
On arrival at Colchester Recreational Ground neon wristbands were handed out and the revellers headed to the food and drink stalls.
Pam ordered a pink gin and lemonade from the bar, then everyone sat and listened to a variety of different music, tribute acts included Ariana Grande, Beyoncé and Britpop.
Alison said: “Pam had a great time singing, dancing, meeting people, and having her photo taken with some of the festival staff.”
After sampling the festival staples of burgers and ice cream, Pam and the staff returned to Great Horkesley Manor. Like a true festival goer, Pam has insisted on keeping her wristband on as a memento!
Jo asked Pam if she would like to go again and she replied enthusiastically “Oh yeah!
“We had a fantastic time!”
Alison added: “Who knows – perhaps our next outing will be to Glastonbury!”
