Extra Mile Award Is On The Menu For Juniper Place

" It is important that we all go the extra mile to support our City Centre businesses and to let them know when they are doing a great job."
Amelia Rudman, Projects Manager at Swansea BID

One of Swansea’s most talked about restaurants, Juniper Place, has been served a Swansea BID (Business Improvement District) Extra Mile Award for outstanding customer care.

The quarterly awards recognise businesses of all kinds throughout the Swansea BID area whose staff go the extra mile to keep their customers and clients happy. They are also designed to give local businesses a boost for the hard work they carry out day in, day out to help keep the City Centre vibrant and unique amid challenging conditions for UK retail.

Juniper Place, and its sister company Old Havana, has been bringing extra colour and buzz to York Street since the end of 2017, with David Bellis and David Wakely, of Refining Dining Co, at the helm. Notable for its warm atmosphere, elegant menus and its popular Cygnet Gin cocktails, the restaurant has made a real impact on the City Centre dining scene, despite being in relative infancy.

David Bellis, co-director of Refining Dining Co, alongside Dai Wakely, who both also own Li’l London and popular South Wales brand, The Meatery Steakhouse, says of the award: “I’m very pleased to see Juniper Place win an Extra Mile Award and I’m proud of our team for consistently giving our customers a warm welcome and attentive service.

“Setting up a restaurant is a big investment of time, money and emotions and the Juniper Place journey has been an adventure for us. Both Dai and I have really ensured that we invest in our town, which is home to both of us and to help the city thrive was so important.  It is noticeable that so many of our customers have very quickly become regulars and they are very appreciative of what we do. Increasingly, I think people feel they have a vested interest in helping businesses that they value, to succeed. We put our heart and soul into everything we do – from the menus to the produce, our own brand Cygnet gin, our service and our events.  We are pleased to see the ongoing regeneration of the City Centre taking shape and we feel this is a good time for business men and women to invest in Swansea.  We expect the SA1 regeneration to bring more people to our corner of town to sample what we do. They will all be made very welcome.”

Amelia Rudman, from Swansea BID, said: “We are delighted to present our Extra Mile Award to Juniper Place. The restaurant has become, in a very short space of time, one of the most popular spots for diners, in a City Centre that has never been better served for great places to eat.

“Of course, when people go out for a special meal they aren’t just expecting to sit down to good food, they also want to be able to relax and to feel welcome, appreciated and looked after. This is very much the ethos at Juniper Place and this ethos will, we are sure, help to keep it at the top of people’s menu. It is important that we all go the extra mile to support our City Centre businesses and to let them know when they are doing a great job. So we would encourage anyone who has enjoyed a great customer care experience, to let them know, and to let Swansea BID know by emailing: amelia.rudman@swanseabid.co.uk so they can be considered for an Extra Mile Award.”

The winning businesses will receive a winner’s rosette, window sticker and website artwork so they can shout about their great customer service, and they will be profiled on the Swansea BID’s website. https://www.swanseabid.co.uk/news/

Previous winners of the Extra Mile Award have been: The Gamers’ Emporium, Chic & Elegant and Valley Mill.
