National retailer Home Bargains are exclusively offering three kinds of festive flavoured sweets from premium confectionery brand Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls in their stores across the UK this Christmas.

The flavours – Mulled Wine, Christmas Pudding and Mince Pie – will retail at 79p per packet and were created following an online poll of Uncle Joe’s fans, who were asked to suggest new varieties.

John Winnard MBE and Ant Winnard, Joint Managing Directors at the Wigan-based company, said the festive sweets were in stores now.

John Winnard said: “We wanted to do something a little bit special this Christmas to help put a smile on people’s faces and our appeal for flavour ideas had an amazing response.

“We put the five most popular suggestions to the vote and counted up everyone’s comments, likes and emails to discover the winners and are delighted that Home Bargains have agreed to sell the top three.

“They are a little bit of fun but also taste great and make a perfect stocking filler for both children and adults.”

Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls are made by Wigan-based William Santus and Co Ltd, a privately-owned traditional sweet company that was established in 1898.

The ownership has been passed down through the family generations and joint Managing Directors John and Antony Winnard are the great, great nephews of the company’s founder.

The Mint Balls are still manufactured using the same traditional methods as when Mrs Santus originally made the sweets in her kitchen in 1898.
