To coincide with its expansion into London, Bristol-based meals.co.uk has appointed Context Public Relations to enhance the profile of its online service that enables top quality restaurants to offer an in-demand home delivery service.
Context is managing a range of activity to increase awareness of meals.co.uk within the restaurant industry, drive consumer engagement and attract further investment to support nationwide expansion of the service. This includes production of a wide range of content relating to the food delivery industry as well as media outreach and press office management.
Founded by entrepreneur Dotun Olowoporoku, and backed by several key UK tech angel investors and venture capitalists, meals.co.uk aims to fill a gap in the market for restaurant quality food at home.
According to research, consumers are demanding a better quality takeaway experience; there are approximately 34,000 restaurants in the UK that currently have no delivery infrastructure to meet this demand. As a result, quality restaurants are potentially missing out on earnings of up to £200k per year.
The concept of meals.co.uk is simple; consumers order their food via the meals.co.uk web platform, the restaurant accepts the order and the delivery is co-ordinated using a proprietary restaurant ordering and delivery logistics app developed by the company. Customers are notified when their order is ready and when they can expect delivery. Meals.co.uk manages the whole delivery process so there is no wasted expenditure on vehicles and drivers for the restaurant owner.
Commenting on the appointment, Frank Smith, MD for Context Public Relations, said: “Having worked with a number of tech start-ups over the last few years, Context has proven experience in building awareness for online businesses. Meals.co.uk is an innovative and exciting concept that is targeting the quality end of the market; we believe this message will resonate strongly across the UK with both industry experts and consumers alike.”
Meals.co.uk ran a successful pilot programme in Bristol over the last year, prompting expansion of the service into other areas, beginning with London. The company is aiming to have four hubs around the capital and wants to sign up at least 300 restaurants over the next 12 months before launching nationwide within the next three years.
Meals.co.uk is the latest online brand to appoint Context for media relations activity, - others include Carrentals.co.uk, Houses.co.uk and DiscountVouchers.co.uk
