An end of life planning firm has received a surge in calls from concerned partners and kids – after an 80-year-old woman revealed she planned to marry her toy boy.
Iris Jones, from Weston, said her 35-year-old Egyptian boyfriend does not want her for her money and has agreed to write a prenuptial.
But Kinherit, which draws up a range of trusts and wills, said the news has made people aware their own children could lose out on inheritance if a partner remarries.
Kinherit CEO Ben Mason said: “We’ve been inundated by calls from people wanting to protect their children from events such as marriage after a death and divorce.”
Iris tried to marry Mohamed Ahmed Irbriham, who is 45 years her junior, while in Cairo.
But they didn’t have the correct paperwork and she is now saving up to return to Egypt for another attempt at marrying him - despite opposition from her family.
Iris has spoken candidly on This Morning about their sex life – saying she felt ‘like a virgin’ and used a whole tube of KY jelly.
Hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby looked shocked during the ITV daytime programme.
Ben, a married dad of one from Bristol, said: “I think most of us would want our partners to carry on with life after we’re gone. If that means being sexually active as an octogenarian, then why not?
“But we’ve recently had calls from people who want to protect their children in such an event, including those who are themselves getting married for a second time.”
The team help people protect assets and keep the money with those it was intended for.
Ben, who has worked in financial services and estate planning for over a decade, said: “I want to know that my little girl is taken care of when I die - regardless of whether my wife remarries or if my own daughter divorces later in life.
“I’ve seen children left without a home or a penny as it all goes to the step partner and their children instead, which is not what their parents would have wanted.
“I think it’s great that people like Iris find love again later in life. But I also think that, whatever our age, it’s important to think of protection – in every sense.”
